County Clare - 2 or 3 seats for FG?

    SORRY - TITLE SHOULD BE 2 OR 3 SEATS - DOH!

    Times today predicting 3 seats for FG. Possible huge shock in store for FF "certainty" Dooley! Any thoughts?

    Ties in well with the boards poll although FF support on boards is lower than it is nationally.

    Given that FG appear to be running only three candidates, they can't take four seats... (thread title being "County Clare - 3 or 4 seats for FG?"):)

    Either way, three FG seats in what's long been an FF stronghold would be a huge blow for FF (though quite probably one of many similar blows).

    Clare isn't called Dev's county for nothing. I'm not a FF supporter but I believe that Dooley will get elected, I reckon he will be scrambling for the last seat though. Pat Breen will top the poll, Carey will get elected and Michael McNamara is in with a chance. I predict 2 FG, 1 Lab & 1 FF

    Big mistake by FG not running Martin Conway or Madeline T-Q as a 4th candidate, no way they'll get 3 seats running only 3 candidates so probably 2 FG 1 FF and either Lab or Breen.

    I completely agree with this view, FG should have had a North Clare candidate. Conway is very popular there and it could have picked up some of Killeen's old vote, now that will go to Hillery and James Breen IMO.

    3.Timmy Dooley(FF)

    4.Between Michael McNamara(LAB), James Breen(IND) and Tony Mulchahy(FG)Mulcahy will probly take the last seat on transfers.

    To get 3 seats FG have to get near 50% of the vote, like FF did in 97 (the last time a party took 3 in the county). They got about 35% in 2007 so in todays environment they can certainly do it, but it will take a bit of vote management by FG - is the will there to do it I wonder?
