Is a light required on the reg plate?

    Hi,
    The light on my rear reg plate in not working and I was wondering (may not be one there) is it legally required?

    It is, and there will be one on a 98 Astra. It probably just needs new bulbs.

    On my last car the light over the reg wasn't working and my mechanic told me for the NCT I would need to get it fixed.

    Yes, rear registration plates have to be illuminated.

    The light is on the bumper I think.
