have to change mower this year, have seen tarrup and malone at local
garage. Thinging of buying new as got caught with a second hand one before but hard to justify as it will be only topping about 50 acres a year.
The malone seems like a well built mower but am i better off to buy a kuhn or tarrup?

Thinking of doing something about buying one myself too, have you looked at lely splendimo range?

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Id be willing to give malone a go, there stuff seems to be good quality and sur isnt it good to support the irish industry when they have something to suit..

i think the malone trailed mower has a comer bed so maybe the linkage mowers are the same so its proably fairly similar to alot of other brands on the market

Are the Comer beds used in any other mowers? R are the unique to Malone?
John Deere and JF all have Kuhn beds.

Had a lely before and never again, constantly replacing bearing and had to change the bed shaft twice. This mower wasnt been abused and was topping about 50 acres a year on good ground (no stones) so will try a different make this time

I was looking at a 2004 Krone 243s for €4325 in Kilkenny, but when you compare it with a new Malone pro cut 800 for €5500. I went to see the Malone and was impressed. The local dealer was saying there selling well with no complaints.

Kuhn all the way, will hold its value if trading down the line, go with heavy duty if buying, tarrup is well built also so either or

how do you know the difference between heavy and light in a khun mower

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 383 ✭✭jerdee

the std series are gmd 44 55 66 beds have to be split to fit new bearing or cog (pain)

heavy duty are gmd 400 500 600 700 the bearings unit sheares off and can be replaced with four bolts same as larger mowers

more expensive but worth the extra 1000/1300 hard to find s/h

I paid 4600 for a splendimo 205 but I was trading in an Old rotary drum mower against it. He told me I was getting 1000 for the old rotary but I guess its like buying a car, there's a cash price and a trade in price
Anyway best of luck with your new mower
