XP User Accounts Pain

    Sole user of pc, have an admin a/c and one User (Limited) a/c. As an example I wanted to install ccleaner on the user a/c but after giving the user a/c admin status still permission denied.

    I even changed admin a/c to user a/c status while leaving the user a/c with admin status but still no job, couldn't change things back to original as error occurred and had to do a system restore.

    If I set up control/alt/delete system for logging on would I be able to access from the logon both accounts as administrator when required.

    am.. eh? no, if you have the fast user switching on, you should be able to log into both accounts without logging out of any of them! Using the login box will only let you log in one user at a time, Admin OR user.

    Anyway, forget that. Have you tried using the "run as" option when installing the app? log in as the user, right click on ccleaner installer, hit run as, enter the admin credentials. give it a whirl and see if she dances back :pac:

    Is this XP Home or XP Pro? I think there are differences in how Run As works between the two, but I could be wrong.

    If the User account can't install software despite having an administrator privileges, there's something else causing the problem. Switching from the Ctrl+alt+del logon screen to the user account list screen at logon won't change this.

    I'd say try the ShellRunAs sysinternals utility, see if that makes life easier.
