I'm just beginning to look into this...

is there a cut off date in the future or is that planned as an ongoing service?

    Thanks!

No.But there is a cut off date for terrestial in Ireland & Uk of end of next year. It will be digital all the way after that.

Every now and again some SKY cheerleader will suggest that Freesat or the whole sat FTV concept is under threat but there is nothing to back that up.

Freesat are still adding channels periodically, as long as the BBC and ITV remain behind it it'll be there.

Whoops I thought this was about freesat, Freeview will never be under threat - over 10 million boxes sold I think, over 1 million HD units.

Strictly speaking terrestial includes digital i.e. DTT stands for Digital Terrestial Television as distinct from analogue which is also terrestial and which is being switched off in both UK and ROI sometime next year.

Only Analogue terrestrial will be closed.

Saorview, Freeview and Freeview HD will remain on Terrestrial and remain free.

Eventually (10 years?) UK might phase out Freeview technology and Freeview channels would all be free to air on the Freeview HD system.

Freesat is needed also indefinitely as it (like Saorsat) is intended to "fill in" for those that can't get a terrestrial Digital signal (Freeview or Saorview)

    Who knows.

In 10/15/20 years time we might all be watching TV via the internet, especially if this superfast broadband becomes the norm.

Just think back 20 years to see how things have changed.

Terrestrial TV transmitters could one day become a thing of the past.

    Which strictly speaking
    1) Isn't true (Talk to people in SE coast or Border areas)
    2) Says nothing about if the TV is compatible or not.

A Saorview box will receive Freeview in N.I. or near border.

Tesco need to catch themselves on. This is not useful product information.
