Is there anywhere cheap that will bring a broken down car from dublin to cork?
My car broke down in dublin and is being held in storage until i can get it and its costing 35 euros a night and at the moment its at nearly 150 euros.
I got quoted 480 euros today for towing to cork which is insane i think

Does anyone know anywhere else that could do it cheaply?
    Thanks a lot

Did you price getting the car fixed in Dublin?

Check if your insurance will cover a tow truck, a lot of policies have this but it usually only covers a local trip.

Why not get the car brought to a dublin mechanic to be fixed, get recommedations here etc.

Most breakdown recovery services with insurance will only drop the car to the nearest garage though.

have you any idea whats wrong with it ? Where is being kept. Some one may be able to put you in touch with a good local mechanic.

I asked how much it would cost to get it fixed and was told it could cost a few hundred to over a grand so i said i'd leave it.
Its the engine, It sounds like a lawnmower and is only going to 2,000 revs in neutral when pushed and will only go 20 miles an hour MAX,

I just wanna get it back to cork but am finding it hard to find a decently priced transport for my car
Any suggestions would be greatly appriciated

Might be able to help you out there with the transportation. I'd be able to deliver it for a little less then €400.

Also I've out door car storage here in Dublin for €25 per month and I could certainly fix the car if you decided to go down that route.

I used crosbie a few years ago to bring a car to Cork from Dublin and the charge was €50. Worth a call:

Do you have any friends in the AA? If so take them up to Dublin with ya and call the AA out, they'll bring the car back to Cork, if your friend has the right AA membership (Rescue Plus)

If it's running enough to get on the back of a transporter, give Crosbies a call and they'll get it down to Cork for you. It will have to be picked up and dropped off somewhere with enough room that a 9 car transporter won't get stuck.

Sounds like a blown ignition coil. If you give us more details on the make of car and engine type you might get better info. If its a coil for instance thats a pretty easy fix. There are reasonable mechanics in dublin that may fix this problem for you for less than it'll cost to transport.

    Its a 99 1.6 Audi A4
One of my friends said that it sounded like that too,
Is that very costly to fix?

Got the car down in the end, The price for keeping it in the garage was 296.45
Got nvd to bring it down for about 120 -150 which was very resonable i think

Not very expensive. Its a bolt on part. Prob wouldn't have cost 450quid for and independant mechanic to fix to be honest. Could be something else but its a common fault on VW's and Audi's.

Do you know how much it would cost to fix roughly?

The part would be under 100quid but there is one needed per cylinder (4). However if the car ran at 20mph then you probably only have 1 gone. Fitting should take under 30mins. Thats if its the coils thats the problem.

If they are pencil coils that go on each spark plug, they should cost about €40 each from a motor factor, and it's a 5 minute job that even a total clutz can do - I've done it myself a few times.

If you have a plastic engine cover, you'll need to remove that and you should be able to see the black, circular top of the coil. To figure out which one in knackered it's a matter of pulling them out one at a time (with the engine running). If the sound of the engine doesn't change then that the knackered coil, if you pull out a coil that is working then the engine will drop to 2 cylinders and really sound rough.

Don't leave them out for too long as it's not good for the engine.
