On a new build,do the internal doors have to be a min 2'8" wide or will 2'6" wide be ok, as I just came across an end of line door at a great price.
    Thanks

What you're looking for is "Part M - Access and Use" of the Building Standards: Technical Guidance Documents.
Section 3.3 deals with Circulation within dwellings.
    • If it's up stairs then the "effective clear width" (basically the width of the door) can be a minimum of 750mm ≈ 2'5½"
    • If the corridor outside the door is 1050mm wide or the door is approached head on from a 900mm wide corridor, then the door can be a minimum of 775mm ≈ 2'6½"
    • If the corridor is 900mm wide then the door should be a minimum of 800mm ≈ 2'7½"

    TL;DR: 2'6" upstairs, 2'8" downstairs
    I'd go for 2'8" throughout

Afraid not Rcdk. The effective clear width is notbasically the width of the door leaf. the thickness of the door, as well as the latch side rebate reduce the opening, so in order to get a 750mm clear opening, you need to have a door at least 800mm wide.

You hardly have to provide such access to every ope to satisfy Part M?

    Why not?
Are you talking about upstairs downstairs, or in general?

I think you should check part m.
Part m is aobut access AND circulation. A dwelling needs an assible entry of at least 800mm clear opening.
The internal doors are required to be wide enough to allow for decent circulation. 775mm or 800mm depending on how its arranged. This only applies to the entrance story.

Oh and guys, 2'8" doors are not part M compliant for coridors less than 1050mm

So you're saying that all doors on the entrance story must be 2'8 to provide "decent" circulation and access?

    Why is that confusing?
Would you expect somebody in a wheelchair to enter the house and stay in the hall, or be allowed into the kitchen but not the sitting room.
I really don't know what you are suggesting? How could only some doors being the right size be ok???

Also, we don't use inches. Its 775 or 800 clear opening.
As I stated, this is often bigger than an 2'8" door, which is 812mm wide, allowing for door thickness and rebate, its cuts it close to 775, and never makes 800.

Thanks Mellor, I dont know if I'm confused or bemused.

I was just making the point that all opes on the entrance story do not have to be >750. I'm not saying that you would or should use different ope sizes, just that you may.

    Sincere apologies if I'm incorrect.
