Hot water pressure down - air bursts from tap

    Hi Guys,

After the water cut at xmas, the hot water in my apt has reduced pressure,
and we get bursts of air coming out of it every so often.
It's frustrating to take a shower now, as the temp can't be controlled.
I guess there's an air block somewhere in the system.
The building mgmt company reckon a pump has gone, but I never previously heard a pump kicking in for hot water..

Any of you knowledgeable people have any ideas?

    Cheers,
    Ray.

We have a hot press, with a tank & immersion heater

Is there a pump to pump the hot water from the tank? That could be the problem

Pretty sure there's not as I never heard one in the past.

Sounds like a partial air lock. Can be simple enough to clear, if you have a mixer tap in the kitchen then you need to send your cold water (mains) back along the hot supply, you maybe able to do this by simply holding your hand over the end of the spout (newer taps will not let you do this) and prevent the hot from coming out while at the same time slowly opening the cold, allow it to back fill for 10/15 seconds, turn off the cold and then allow the hot to flow for a time, hopefully it has cleared the airlock, if not, repeat, but run cold for a little longer, if after trying this a few times you still have a problem then it's time to call out the plumber.
If you don't have a mixer then a short piece of hose from hot to cold.
