Windows Serial Key recovery

    I have windows vista on my laptop and want to do a clean install,
    only problem is the windows label is so faded i cant really read the windows key,
    is there any easy way for me to find out the key?

    Control Panel > System and Security > System: should be under windows activiation.

    Don't think you'll need it though.

    Edit: never mind, I'm wrong, that's product code.

    was getting a bit worried if i cud get it out somehow as the windows label seems to have faded/wore away

    Good practice is to email a copy of the details to your webmail account, and keep it there. Also take note of serial number of computer(can get if from bios if worn away)and office product key if applicable, handy if you ever need it (stolen etc)

    Now i know the diff between a prod id and prod key typically confusing.

    Product Keys and Product IDs are two completely different things,
    despite the similarity of the terms.
