    Hi

Just watched the Wales England match. Can someone tell me

    1. What are all the guys on the LapTops doing?? Strange that they all have the nice bit of Corporate Advertising on the back of the screen and their Initials......are they liable to be nicked??

    2. Also... why does Martin Johnson need a Radio/ Walkie Talkie?? Would it not just be better to be down on the touchline and 'roar' at people???

    3. How come you don't see Managers / Laptops in private booths etc in Soccer???

    ....just curious!!

    Thanks all

In rugby there's no point standing on the sidelines. You'd want to be up and above the play to see how the attacking lines are being run etc and also keep an eye on the defense.

Laptops have data fed constantly to them about players movements etc so nobody can hide. There are cameras in the stadium able to pick out each player and track their movements so no-one can hide.

Oh and 3 - football is football. Leave it at that

another thing is once the team goes on the field the manager is not allowed have any contact with the players...remember the Martin Johnson incident where he was supposedly speaking into the water bottle?

He wasn't. He was taking water and talking to player beside him who just happened to be off camera.

The management are in contact with technical team on pitchside who, when on-field, get message to players or from the touchline.

i know he wasn't but when that incident happened i can recall the commentators saying they're not allowed have contact with the players directly.

There's also the hoax story that Bernie Larkham had a headset in his headgear in the 1995 RWC against England.
In an interview he stoked it all up again by smirking that he had one all the time and when he received a head injury, thats when Australia fell to pieces. Of course, the pundits fell for it again.

How does this work with Guy Noves? Is his role defined differently or something? (Just using him as an example)

Set number of technical staff only allowed in tech zone. They must forego a physio or something. He doesn't go on-field though.
Toulon's owner keeps hanging around that area too. He gets fined every time. He should be banned from touchline. I guess he's got too much sway in France.
