    Hi

I have't been keeping upto date with my CA diary.

I'm sure of what we are required to do? How long can the period be over which the entry covers?

    How detailed showed entries be?

How many entries should there be per month?

    Can entries be very general?

What approach should be take to selecting the competencies covered? Any advice

    Many thanks in advance!

    How detailed showed entries be?

There is a pdf booklet on the CAI website showing a sample of the entries required standard at the 3 levels (i.e. Understand, Apply,Integrate). If you keep within this standard you should have no problems. Mine ranged from 200 - 600 words depending on competency level per entry.

How many entries should there be per month?

Depends on the work you done. Between 2-3 per month I done on mine.

    Can entries be very general?

Again stick to the pdf guidelines. They give you a list also of unacceptable entries and stay well clear of these. I would suggest not putting any general ones in.

Make sure you have your 48 audit weeks to get your auditing cert (if passed under old syllabus or with auditing elective on new syllabus) and make sure you hit each competency I found helps. Again all answers are in the sample answers pdf for the competencies.

I was the first year of the new diary being introduced and I didn't fill in any entries until after I completed my 3.5 years (NOT RECOMMENDED, but most people who I spoke to done the same).

The sample answer booklet is key, I used all the fancy language they used and applied the answers standard to my own training (i.e. same structure of answer but in my own words.)

If your Diary is basically a regurgitation (in your own words and experience) of their standard answers for each competency level and most importantly enclosed with a cheque for your fees, you should have no problems.

PS It takes time alot of time so try and get your timesheets from work to gauge what you done 3.5 years ago etc.

I'm currently trying to update my CA Diary and am struggling a bit ... I'm not sure what kind of experience is relevant for the PV and CB and competencies, especially when in a smaller practice ... can anyone give me any advice please ?? :(
