These are quite efficient on the motorway....not sure of your budget though

Just one advice - small engine cars seem to be not very fuel efficient at high speeds.

I got 1.8 petrol Primera, and as at 80km/h it takes only 6 maybe 6.5 litres/100km, then at 120km/h it takes way over 8l/100km.
When I was recently driving longer distance at speeds about 180km/h, it took about 14l/100km, which is way too much.
Probably Primera 2.0 petrol would be more efficient at high speeds, and less efficient at low speeds.

I would have to say the honda civic 1.8 ses i-vtec 5 door saloon is a great car very good on fuel proberly 50 miles to the gallon i have one myself and i am in the rescue services and on call 24/7 so i would have to get to my base fairly quickly and this car has it all comfort reliabilty and has the power. Go to www.parkers.co.uk and you will see reviews on cars its a great website .

fyi I drive a 05 seat leon tdi 150 and the rev meter sits at 2000 rpm at the speed limit, i find it very economic on motorways. On 40 pounds of diesel, I got from edinburgh, to the port in scotland, through northern ireland, to dublin and back to drogheda!
