when is the earliest this should be done. mine is fairly strong now as in about 4 to 5 inchs but slightly yellow looking. would it be ok to give it a trim when the weather dries up?

just read in the farmers journal that they recommend cutting the grass once its dry enough and once you wont make tracks. might chance it had the lawnmower deck at top level. what do ye think?

Sure it is no problem to give the grass a light trim but pick a dry day.

As above pick a dry day and keep the mower quite high you can knock the stuffing out of the lawn if you scalp it and also encourages moss if you cut it too short. you should aim to have about 50mm grass when cut.

Read up on lawn care as you should prep a lawn for winter it should not be 4" to 5" if maintained last autumn. Also the yellowing maybe due to lack of nitrogen, compaction or waterlogging. Plenty of sites on line with pics to help.
