Does anyone have any experience with this....

When UPC upgraded our area they asked if they could install the booster box for the road on the side of our house. We agreed as the UPC guy said we'd get a decent discount from them for having this. We're going to upgrade our tv package and switch over our phone to them aswell.

Any idea of what type of discount we can expect a month????

    Thanks....

I'd imagine you'll get nothing extra, other than what they already gave you when the box was installed.

Free basic TV or whatever it was.

I'm presuming you have already been given the discount, by the way. :)

No actually we said we'd wait until we'd upgrade everything else. Cancelling sky and eircom next week.

Probably gonna get their version of multiroom, with the digital max + and the anytime phone deal. Thought we might get a further discount for fully selling our soul to them! :)

Clever move. I'd imaging you'd probably get something like their digital pack gratis, for as long as you're living there. You'd be doing well to get more - maybe push for free "Anytime World" or similar.

You did apply through http://www.upc.ie/boardsoffer for the €50 voucher, I presume ;)

    Best of luck.

You are in a farily strong position. Dont cancel Sky etc yet. Basically I would be shooting for full broadband, tv, phone for nothing or remove the box. Tell them the guy who installed the box told you you would get everything for free. If they refuse tell them to remove the box within a week - if its a booster box for other homes they will crumble eventually.

I can guaranteed if you try this you will lose any chance of a concession, they will run from you. Plus your home won't be upgraded and the cable will be reroute or dig around your home. It's not like the old days, an amp tends to feed only a small number of homes. The amp is usually no bigger than a small biscuit tin.

Best you'll get would be one of the digital packs. You won't get any Sky premium channels ie sports\movies or digital multiroom.
Ask away but as DingDong said you won't get any broadband or phone service as part of a concession....fact.

Hey Black Pearl... Did you hear anything from UPC. I have a box (about 18inches by 12inches) on the side of my house and contacted UPC yesterday. Was told that someone would call me later in the week to discuss my option. I'm not a digital customer with anyone so not bothered if I get anything of not but if I get a decent discount I'll defo get connected. Have Vodafone broadband at the mo and it's rubbish so if I get free Internet I'd be happy....

Look forward to hearing your result.

If that box was installed from way back when then UPC likely already have a right of way to that box being there. You can usually only get concessions from them if they need your consent to e.g. put something new up like a run of the newer thicker cable or one of the aforementioned line amplifiers.

i had extra cable put on my house in days of cablelink and got free service for 18 years after that they rewired the houses and that was the end of that.
