Brian Lenihan caught spoofing at campaign press conference

FINANCE Minister Brian Lenihan suffered an embarrassing slip-up at the launch of Fianna Fáil’s economics manifesto, denying remarks he made in his Budget 2010 speech that "the worst is over".

When it was pointed out to him that he did in fact say "the worst in over" in the 2010 budget speech...
The minister was later forced to backtrack and defend his remarks that the economy had “turned the corner” and “the worst is over” in his 2010 Budget speech, saying he still stands by them.

“I make no apologies for saying we turned the corner that year. We did,” he said. “Yes the worst was over then because we haven’t had any further decline since. We stabilised the employment position, we stabilised the public finances, that’s what’s happened. That’s the basis of those comments,” he said.

This is not the first time he's been caught spoofing. On the IMF bailout Lenihan said,

    * In an interview on BBC Newsnight on November 9, 2010, with Jeremy Paxman.

Brian Lenihan: “We intend to return to the markets next year, and we intend to fund ourselves. That’s our plan. ..

“And we’ve made a cardinal plank of our policy that we intend to pay our debts as a state, we will pay our way and we’re determined to do that.”

    * Sunday, November 21, after several days of negotiations with EU/IMF team, Mr Lenihan said: “I will be recommending to the Government that we should apply for a programme and start formal applications.”

Mary Regan of the Irish Examiner has to get the thanks for all this. Here's the full article. Very interesting read.

Thus, am I the only that just laughs when Lenihan is talking...in essence I can't believe a word he's saying. Who are these people that believe he's a good finance minister?

That's a very good article, kudos to Mary Regan the journalist.

This is what we need more of, a close examination of those candidates putting themselves forward for the election.

It's all about their leadership/articulation/policies and not about how good they look on TV/election posters.

I am very carefully looking at candidates in my own area before I vote.

Oh I would love to see a Finance debate between Noonan and the spoofer more than I want to see a leaders debate. Noonan gave a good account of himself today on the Pat Kenny show. the interview is now available on RTE.ie for anyone to listen too.

Me too. It's incredible the time expended on headlines/radio/tv about the leaders debate and what format it will take and all that crap.
Get the spokesmen and women on and let them defend their party's policies.

EDIT: And only hours later the FG team have blown it up again into a big issue.
    Jesus wept.

Lenihan has always been a spoofer a great talker but it is such a pity that when his lips move lies come out. for two years in a row now he has been voted the worst minister for finance in Europe and yet he is a God to all FF supporters.

The thing is though Lenihan believes his own lies!!!! I honestly think he doesn't know the difference between reality and fantasy, a seriously wrong person to have in charge of the finance department it has to be said...........

I relly find it hard to believe that there are some people that would still vote for F.F. and return the likes of Lenihan to the finance portfolio.
Maybe it is not he politicians that are to blame but the stupid people that continue to support them for the loss of our independance.

Apples dont fall far from the tree. He comes from a long line of spoofers.
The Lenihan Dynasty is founded on spoofing.
His brother is one ,his auntie is one and his father was one.
Not too surprising really that he belongs to a party of spoofers.
Is spoof the same as lie.
