Does the speed of how fast the memory card affect the picture thats been taken?

If so, what is a reasonable speed to read / write ?

    Nope.

When you take a photo it is stored in the camera memory and it is then written to the card. The faster the card then the faster it will be written to it.

The only time you might have a problem with card speed is if you are taking bursts of pictures and your camera memory (buffer) fills up before it has written the photos to the card. You will then have to wait for a second or two for more room in the buffer to take a pic.

To be honest unless you are using a camera with >5 or 6 fps then card write speed is never going to be an issue
