This had me thinking last night for some reason.

Is there any difference between a wii fit 5 mile run against a road 5 mile run. Taking into account that both are a flat road and weather conditions are good.

Now the wii fit 5 mile would be boring as hell.

Would the wii fit platform thingy stand up to a 5 mile run ?

How can you measure distance on a wii anyway?

You need to bring it outside first, to get a good satellite signal

The wiimote records each "step" per se and it calculates an average step distance.

You can run by shaking it up and down.

You dont use the board for running, instead use the remote.

Maybe i should try this experiment tonight and see what happens!!

Imagine training for a marathon using the wii, ie no outside running till the race!!

you would be running on the spot wouldn't you???

so it'd be the same as 5 miles on a threadmill except there's nothing to keep you maintaining a certain pace bar willpower

i think running on the spot would be completely different......the whole mechanics of it is different....we didnt evolve to run on the spot so it would be harder on the body to do it, and you would never get the same leg speed..... skipping seems like a better thing to do on the spot

Is it not just waving your arm back and forth then if your only using the remote thingy? Think I could manage to do that for half an hour and drinking a pint as well. Sounds like fun way of clocking up the miles.

I use the wii active and it has running/walking segments in it between the other exercises. you have to put the nunchuck thingy in a strap on your upper thigh to record your steps as opposed to just waving the remote in your hand.
I am not a runner like all the pros that post here, but I can run on the treadmill (barely).
As funny as it sounds, cos I can't run on the spot, I actually run around in a circle in my living room - I'm so glad I live alone.:o

lol they are only short bursts (60/90 secs) to break up the other sets, and you can't skip anything.
I have an open plan kitchen/living room, so it is quite big
