Hi, considering a 3 or 4 day stay in oneof these cities while en route to NZ.

Any advice on which is better from a tourists point of view? Are they close enough to see both of them?

And am I right in thinking the airport is in Abu Dhabi ?

I was in Dubai last year and from there I was able to get an ordinary (non-tourist) bus to Abu Dhabi and it took I think less than 3 hours each way and was very cheap. I really liked Dubai, and if I was to reccomend one or the other city for a first time visitor I would suggest Dubai. You have a lot of things to see and do there - including the creek (which you can cross on one of the old dhows), the spectacular new buildings including the worlds tallest tower, and the iconic hotel shaped like a sail down by the beach. Also the Mall of The Emirates and Ski Dubai, as well as the gold souk and all the other markets. I found Dubai to be very friendly and welcoming, and really liked it.
There are airports at both cities - Dubai airport is now linked to the city by the metro which is excellent.
I'm not sure how well Abu Dhabi airport is connected to the city. I think if you are flying Ethihad they fly non stop from Dublin to Abu Dhabi.
I was only in Abu Dhabi for that one day when I went by bus, and it had a really nice plaza esplanade along the seafront which was very enjoyable to walk along.

Abu Dhabi airport is in Abu Dhabi and guess what Dubai airport is in Dubai. Abu Dhabi is much more a commercial city with heavy volumes of traffic. It has the most amazing Mosque and will in time I feel be the No 1 tourist destination. For now I think Dubai is the best for a 3 or 4 day stop. From the airport the "Luas" will take you into "town" in a few minutes and Taxi's are cheep, as last post says it is a nice bus trip to Abu Dhabi but I think with 3 or 4 days Dubai will have more than ebough for you.
