When i turn the key in my ignition (enough to turn on radio etc, but not start the car) there is a clicking noise, something electrical.

The car starts and everything but just wondering what this clicking could be and if its important or bad?

Also, car due for nct in a month, have been advised that its a good idea to scrub the brake lines and paint them, with burnt oil to prevent corrosion. Just wondering has anybody done this and would the NCT crowd say anything?

What kind of car is it. Does it have an electric aerial or alarm? Can you pinpoint where the sound is coming from? Does it continue when the car is started?

    Electric fuel pump priming.

It's a Ford mondeo mk2 1999 1.8TD. The clicking noise stops after about 30 seconds or so, doesn't continue when car is started. It has an electric alarm but not aerial.

old_aussie: If it is the fuel pump priming, I assume the noise is normal then and nothing to worry about?
