Hi, I'm thinking of applying for the Higher Certificate in Science in Information Technology Support in GMIT Castlebar. I'm currently doing computers & IT FETAC Level 5 course, fairly basic stuff. I did work experience in computer repair shop, really enjoyed it. Anyone who is doing or done this course in GMIT before?? I'd much appreciate any information.

    Go for it.

Its a good course and includes Cisco CCNA certification as part of the qualification. Castlebar campus has a great atmosphere as its a little smaller than some of the others. The lecturers are spot on and very helpful. The course starts off at a relatively basic level but gathers pace very quickly and gets quite intense as you will be covering a lot of material.
After the Higher Certificate you can progress straight into the one year add-on degree and hons degree courses.
Best of luck with whatever you choose.

PM me if you need any more info.

i did this course back in 04/05up to 2nd yr i think it was and iam going back in january 2012 to finish it.
its a very intense course but you get the hang of it after awhile as long as you turn up everyday and hand in the asignments you should be fine,i harly went in the 1st year was living with a gang of my friends and all we did was drink and party and i still managed to pass 1st year but even if u dont go in you need to get the projects done on time

I am thinking of doing this course this year.
Is it over 5 days a week?
    Was the work experience good?
    Did grads get work?
