Replacing a Power Jack

Gotta replace the power jack on my Hewlett Packard Pavilion DV5 after one of mates broke it.

I looked up online how much they cost and they're pretty cheap. The only problem is it seems you have to take the whole laptop apart just to replace it so that means bringing it into the shop and letting someone professionally do it.

Any idea on how much a repair shop would charge?

I could do it for 35 euro were i used to work charged about 120.

Does that include getting the parts for it or would I have to supply the new power jack?

    Thanks

    How old is the laptop?

A good chunk of the newer laptops will have the dc jack on a cable and it just plugs in to the motherboard. They usually range from €30-70. If it's not this type and it's soldered on to the motherboard then the part is around €5-15. Only problem with the 2nd option is that you'll need some soldering/desoldering tools and skills.

It's only about 2 years old. Is it best to bring it in somewhere?

I would say yes but I'm in the industry. If you're in anyway confident taking it apart and with soldering you could save yourself ~€70. If you're not, you may damage it and end up buying a new motherboard.
