    Hi Guys
Has anyone had problems with the turbo blowing on a 530d? I have a 2004 530d bought less than 3 years ago just after it had a new turbo fitted. Within 12 months it had gone again. Fair dues to BMW they fixed 1t. Now it has gone again within 24000 miles and they don't want to know. 4 turbos in 100,000 miles... not good... I think there is another fault they have missed. I dont do big milage or trash the car and it has a full service history by a bmw service specialist. Has anyone you know had similar problems?

old man just had the turbo done on his 07 520d. 75k km, but he went about 15k extra km after the service light came on! wasn't the best idea and i gave him hell as the bill wasn't cheap for him!

fairly common fault with these cars is that the crank case breather needs to be replaced as i clogs up and cause too much crank case pressure...blowing the seals on the turbo....about 60 or 70 euro for the part...

cost a lot more than that to replace the turbo!

yes turbbo is a lot more....if op wants i can try get him a good price on a turbo but im just pointing out that this is whats more than likely causing the turbo failures...no point replacing with out finding the cause of the problem

crank case breather has been replaced when the last two turbos were fitted

was talking to a mechanic about this last year when i changed the turbo on my car and he said he had a guy who had blown the turbo in his audi 4 times in 1.5 years , says it was all the drivers fault that he drove it hard and turned off the engine before coming to a stop , so it never let the turbo cool down , do you let the engine tick over for a minute when you come to a stop , if you dont you can damage a turbo , and if you got the turbo done by bmw you have a warranty with it for two years no matter what , so go back to them and demand they fix it

The engine should be close to idling for the last minute or so of a journey unless the driver is pulling straight off a motorway and into his drive. You'd need to be ragging it to cause turbo oil starvation problems.

Get the swirl flaps checked too. The original issue may have been caused by them. Perhaps they're still breaking up and ending up in the turbo. Your engine could also be suffering.
