I collect loads of plastic bottles, glass bottles and cans. Are there any recycling companies that will purchase them from me or is it just a matter of handing them over to the refuse company? :)

I have looked into this a small bit a year ago and cant seem to find any operator to sell the plastics, newspaper etc... too I could only find companies in uk and nearly every other country. It might be different now or you might need a lot of space to hold large quantities before you can sell it to them. I am sure there is a business here it just needs to find 1 person to sell to and its perfect.

Thanks a lot for the reply. I reckon theres a few quid to be made, but there's no-one buying. As it is we pay them, and they make a fortune!

They are making a hell of a lot of money at the moment but if you research the companies that do it at the moment there profit each year is crazy and its because we pay for them to collect it and then they sell it to other countries. It is a very profitable business and if i could find someone to buy it I would look at getting into it.

Years ago you could bring back your glass bottles back to the shop and get a refund for them. This should be reintroduced across the board for paper, plastic, cardboard etc. It was a great way of making pocket money for kids before and it also reduces the litter problem significantly.

They do the bottles in a lot of countries and it seems to work great, same as the cash 4 cans scheme that was running years ago. These would be great to bring back.

There is companies out there that buy plastic and ship it to the Far East in Ireland.
I`m currently looking into this myself as I do a lot of work with the Far East.

Plastic bottles, glass and cans are`nt worth much but clean LDPE and HDPE plastic is worth money by the ton.
