Jackie Earle Haley and Bella Heathcote haved joined Dark Shadows.
Haley will reportedly portray Willie Loomis and Heathcote "is the choice to play Victoria Winters, the young governess of the Collins estate." The pair will join Johnny Depp, who was previous confirmed as vampire Barnabas Collins.
Tim Burton will helm Dark Shadows from a screenplay by Seth Grahame-Smith.

This could be a return to form for Burton and Depp

Michelle Pfeiffer is in negotiations for a starring role in the film opposite Johnny Depp, who will play the vampire Barnabas Collins. Pfeiffer, who played Catwoman in Burton’s 1992 Batman Returns, is in talks for the part of Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, the matriarch of the Collins family...................

Jackie Earle Haley plays creepy very well - the cast portrait looks awesome so hopefully the film will be

Johnny Lee Miller looks awfully like the principal from The Inbetweeners in that pic.

Stumbled across this just a while ago on THR.
    http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/dark-shadows-trailer-johnny-depp-tim-burton-300814

I had watched a re-run of the series when I was in the US back in the 90s and got totally hooked to it - silly acting and bad sets aside.
Think of the original as the basis for The Vampire Diaries.

So - seeing the movie I had to jump into the trailer. Didn't pay any attention to the name Burton - I should have.
I basically spent the trailer chuckling away to myself - Burton and Depp have done this in the style of the Starskey and Hutch movie - looks absolutely hilarious and over the top.

Nothing has stirred me in a while to go the movies - but seeing this trailer I know what I will be doing in the summer.

I'm not familiar with the tv series, but the trailer is far more comedic than I was expecting. Hopefully it doesn't reflect the actual tone of the film because I was looking forward to this.

I don't know what to think. For the most part it looks like a cheesy mess. But I did laugh at one or two parts.

    Supernatural Austin Powers. Meh.

The original show is quite camp and it continuously toed the line between being genuinely creepy and a somewhat comedic soap opera. The great Dan Curtis created the show and worked within the restrictions imposed by the timeslot given the show but would over the years prove himself to be one of the more unique voices in horror cinema. I was hoping that this would try to be something different and use the 12 or 15 cert to create a genuinely scary film but it seems Burton has gone for all out camp. As bad as this appears to be at least it can't be the worst Curtis re-imagining of the past decade, that honour belongs to the abysmal Night Stalker starring Stuart Townsend.

The first part of the trailer was more the tone i was hoping for, kind of a sleepy hollow vibe. looks like its actually a camp comedy though. Still laughed a few times though and its got a great cast.

Man that was horrendous. Was a huge fan of the original series with McGavin. It was a ritual where me and my dad would sit down and watch it together. Apart from Match of the Day, I can't think of any shows we watched together like that! :pac:

At least ABC cancelled the Townsend reboot quick-sharp.

Saw this last night. Very unimpressed with it. It was a bit all over the place and just felt like it was trying to hard. You're supposed to care about his relationship with Victoria and she disappears for 45 minutes in the middle and I'd say is only screen for about 10 minutes total. Most of the characters were pointless or had no development. Whole thing fell flat.

Went to see this last night, have to say i thoroughly enjoyed it tbh :)
Wasnt exactly sure what to expect from the trailer, was kinda expecting it to be a tad meh from that in itself, but it really surprised me!
Im thinking Burton could be getting back to his good roots with movies, his previous attempts werent all that great imho, not rubbish but still didnt have his feel to them.
The only flaw id have with this though was the ending seemed a tad thrown together, was quite quick to come about and seemed to be just over, thats it like, other than that great movie!

Tim Burton, Johnny Depp and HBC making the same kooky sh1t they've been doing for years now?

A warning to all moms and dads bringing their
    little darlings; it ain't a comedy! ;)

Unlike what some thick on the radio on Saturday suggested.

    :D

Anyhoo.. it's all very talky and with not much action but it's smart
and has a damn good toe tappin' soundtrack which the foot was going
at good oh! Good job it was an empty afternoon in The Swan!!!

    :)

We enjoyed it immensely. And as usual with Burton, the visuals are
    terrific.

    Ah i know that :D:p
But i saw the short versioned trailer, where its basically Johnny Depp, some comedic appeal towards his vampire antics and then him flying around the room with the blonde chick, i meant i still wanted to see it but wasnt expecting it to be as good as it was!
imho hes not back to his full greatness of his past great movies, but definitly getting there :)

Exactly, but his previous attempts of late were good but didnt really have the extremely dark and a tad nuts :D Burton feel to them, still good movies, but i think this one is seeing him getting back on track

Johnny Depp had great chemistry with Eva Green, their scenes were the best imo, there wasnt much laughs in the film tbh but if your a fan of Burton you'll enjoy

The actress who played Victoria/Josette looked younger than Chloe Moretz

    smirking.

Saw this on Saturday. It was a good harmless yarn and delivered laughs throughout. I wouldn't put anyone off going to see it.

I enjoyed Michelle Pfeiffer's performance most.

I can't comment on how it compares to the tv series, but as a Burton fan I found this quite enjoyable. Thankfully the tone of the film is darker and more atmospheric than the trailer suggests. However, it's not particularly funny or scary and is ultimately too silly to be a dark romance. Nevertheless, Burton delivers his usual brand of eccentricity and all the actor are fun to watch.

I did enjoy is but it seemed to be trying to be too many things and failed to hit any of them properly.

Good bit of laughs but not a comedy
Vampire attacking people but not a horror
As you said, not serious enough to be a dark romance but had elements of it.

Saw this tonight. I think the Burton/Depp schtick is getting old. There's a few laughs, the imagery is nice and the cast is good. But it really does fall flat

Saw this tonight. Overall I enjoyed it but it seemed very flat and was very slow. It just didn't seem to know what it is, as was already said, not quite a comedy, not quite a horror. I think if they'd either gone all out gothic horror or all out dark comedy it would have been a better film than the middle ground it went with.

I thought the whole cast were great though and its not a bad film by any means, certainly a lot better than that steaming turd Alice in Wonderland.

I saw this over the weekend. Not a bad movie, nice mix of comedy & horror & a bit unusual I thought.

I saw this last night. I quite liked it but it wasn't perfect. I found it to be a dark dry comedy. It's not The Munsters or anything like that. I haven't seen the original and, indeed, until now I didn't know it was based on a TV show. There was something preposterous about the whole thing that made me laugh. I agree it definitely had a feel f Burton's earlier films which was good.

The movie does ramble in spots and I agree about the Victoria character. I actually remarked at one point that she seemed to have disappeared and I was left wondering why she was there in the first place. Only at the end did it make sense.

It's quite an odd ball comedy but I definitely enjoyed it.
