Can anyone give a bit of advice / suggestions please ?

I've been firing off my CV for jobs of late but no real replies. So I have concluded that perhaps it needs a rework. One role I was 100% suitable for, recruiter asked me to rework the wording, I did so but got no reply. I know, one role but in past days I would be 90% sure of consideration and it surprised me to get no reply when it was definitely an active role.

So I know I need to prioritise this and I'm wondering is there any reasonably priced people who specialise in IT CVs that could, for a fee, help me ?

The issue is my CV has kinda just mutated and I need to be clearer but would appreciate advice and structured criticism ? I did re-invent it already but dont think its a good enough job and its such a small market here that I can't go wholly re-publicising myself...

    thanks

    fbp.

PM me your CV if you like and I will try help - I'm a 10 year recruiter and this is a service we are considering launching, although not definite yet.

If you think we added value I might get a testimonial off you if we go ahead, if not or if you dont wish to do that, no problem!

Not sure we're allowed to recommend services on here... but either way I haven't used any.

You need to tailor your cv for each job you apply for.
If you're leaving your cv into an agency, keep the cv to one page. You said you need "to be clearer". This isn't true. You need to be CLEAR!

Your cv should be made up of titles and bullet points only. Each work heading should have 3-5 bulletpoints.

Education and qualifications should be kept even more brief. Education should be one line stating the name of the college, course and dates, and a bulletpoint stating what grade you go. Major qualifications and courses should be reduced to one bulletpoint. Minor qualifications should be peppered throughout employment history and left out of the qualifications section altogether unless absolutely relevant to the job you're applying for.

Cut out waffle. For each job, only state the work you actually did, rather than sounding like a vague job spec.

Leave out the word "I" on your cv and make sure to stick to the past tense only. e.g. "Maintained a sql database of 200,000 clients ..." rather than "I was responsible for access, oracle, word, microsoft, norton antivirus" or "striving to improve the organisations database"

Hi there, I've worked as mgr in software for 15+ years. I'd be happy to review/comment on your cv, and also give advice on tailoring cv's to specific roles etc. Feel free to pm me ( FYI not looking for anything in return, and will treat cv in strictest confidence)
Either way, hope you get a break soon.
    All the best....
Ps: am up to me ass at the minute so it would be Saturday before I could really look at anything

    Wow.

Really appreciate the replies from everyone. Thanks ! I gotta get my ass in gear so every bit of advice and help is much appreciated! I do tailor my CV to most roles I would apply for but I just think the core is now way too verbose and its 'what' people are looking for in a CV is now different to when the CV was originally created.

Again, Thanks for all the replies I'll get some PM's out as soon as I can if thats ok.

Thanks again to all for replying / offering. I really appreciate it.

Try www.careervision.ie There are a couple of examples of CV's on the website and you could get in touch with someone if you wanted them to have a look at it. They give great feedback. I really recommend it. I'm not sure about specific IT specialists CV's advisors say they be a few online if you looked. Irishjobs.ie and myhorizon can have a look at your CV they will give you a few tips and show you how to present it in a professional manner. Don't forget to tailor your CV for the jobs you are applying for!
