Are you planning on doing any gaming? If no, then what would you use it for?

No gaming, basic but constant use, just internet, email, saving pics, youtube, films and connecting to the tv to watch films

I'm not 100% on two things: the tv output, while it "should" work fine, I don't know how powerful the graphics card is for HD so you might not get full HD on your TV.
The second thing is I'm not sure about battery life but since it won't be using games I can assume safely that it's faiurly okay.

Secondly, why are you getting a 17.3 screen? You know it's going to be a load to carry anywhere, right?

wont be travelling anywhere much with it.
just taut it was a good price for a large screen and a good cpu.
has everythin iwas looking for - hdmi, card reader, i3 cpu, large ram and hdd

The one you linked to isn't an i3 and a large HDD would be at least 500GBs, the one you linked has 250GB.

Well here's the good news, apparently i3 cores and intergrated graphics cards generally work well together for playing games. And yeah, it's a fairly good price. I'd get some more opinions though.

Is the i3 that much hotter than dual core? I have a dual core and an ati 4200 and my laptop is fine.

I can't compare as heat depends not only from PSU but cooling system on the particular laptop models. But i3 really hot so dual core in my experience is cooler and these days you can get one cheap top end dual core.
I would be looking for i5 it can handle bigger loads with less heat.
Or get top end dual core for the same price as i3

GPU- Most of the movies are GPU intensive so look for better GPU (as chaotic_forces said i3 and i5 has integrated GPU)
HDD- with 320GB not much these days... look for bigger one
EDIT RAM- more better for laptops 4GB is good. I think computers like 2,4,8 or 16GB more then 3GB(2 in one slot and 1 in the other) (6GB is ok 2:2:2)
Wireless- look for n technology (like 802.11b/g/n)
battery- is important (if you want go down in the kitchen and have a chat with grandpa over the skype :D and don't have much time to mess with power cable)
Screen- if you are going to use photoshop to fix your pictures for movies not that important
Inputs/Outputs- loads of USB, HDMI, Card reader....
Price- if your computer breaks down you don't feel that bad :D

Actually, I meant than an i3 with intergrated graphics is much, much better for games than a dual core and intergrated graphics. :o
