i want to sell my car, i dont intend on purchasing another so i wont be trading in, what are the pit falls in selling private or selling to trade (is there a difference?), do i need to stand over the car for 3 months etc? :confused:

basically you have to sell privately, the trade are not interested in buying your car for cash. You don't have to stand over the car: it's sold as seen, buyer beware.

Obviously, you can't lie about it's history, though.

If the buyer asks any questions, you need to answer them truthfully, otherwise the sale is void. Apart from that, responsibility is 100% up to the buyer. If the car breaks down completely down the road, it's the buyer's problem, he will have no come back whatsoever.
