    hi,
My brother is having difficulty copying songs from his girlfriend's laptop onto his iphone. He is sure he setup his iphone initially on her laptop. he has downloaded music directly onto his iphone from the itunes store with no problems, but when trying to copy from itunes, we tried to drag the songs onto the ipod icon but we get that negative icon which won;t allow it. This sounds strange as I'm sure I read somewhere that an iphone can only be linked to one machine, and I'm fairly sure this was the machine it was linked to. Is there any way I can check this or get around it?

I can't hook my iPhone up to iTunes at the moment, so have to be a bit vague with the instructions. When you plug the iPhone into your computer and iTunes opens, in the menu on the left, just below the Store, your iPhone should appear. Click on that, and you should see the details of your iPhone appear. There are tabs along the top, one of them should be for music (just click through them all to see what's what). When you find the music, you can sync it all, or just select what you want, then press the Sync button on the bottom right, and that should do it. You may have to authorise the phone if the iTunes account isn't the same.

Hi, I tried what you suggested last night, synced the whole phone with itunes, but when I checked what music was on the iphone, it was just the music purchased from itunes store, not what was on itunes.
How do you authorise the phone?
I dont have his phone here to try it again, but read something about you being only able to copy playlists from itunes to the iphone??

I'll have to wait until I get home to hook my iPhone up to see what I did. I have copied all my music from iTunes onto my iPhone, the vast majority of which is from CDs, not iTunes purchases, so it can be done quite easily, it's likely just something simple. If nobody else has any suggestions before I get home I'll have a look to see exactly what boxes I have ticked etc and post back.

Oddly enough, I have no problem doing it with my own iphone, just his one is the problem

I don't seem to have anything unusual ticked. In the music tab I simple have the Sync Music box ticked, and then the Entire Music Library box ticked as well. There's nothing else that I can see that I have done. If it's not working on your brother's iPhone with those boxes ticked, then I'm at a loss as to what the problem is.

I prefer to create Playlists, add songs to those playlists, then mark those to be synced with the iPod.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.
