Added to the Tips Section as well.

Just found this link where they show in detail how to bed a rifle.

    Stress-free my eye!

Thanks though clivej- think I read at least one before. Probably read them both again, become tempted to try it, then back out at the last minute! :(

Was only reading about this last night

Would be too scared to do it myself though I think, not very confident in my craftsmanship :o

Really want to try this now. Does it differ much between bedding wooden and synthetic stocks?

Read, Read and Read the articles over and over again and again.

That way I got a very good idea in my head as to what they were talking about.

Then I made the decision to go and do it.
I took 2 days all in and first off carefully dremeled out the wood from the stock where the devcon would be going, about 2-3mm. Took plenty of time and thought it out before going on to the next step of anything.

Easy enough to do but you need a bit of space and time and a few good tools. Best buy was a "Tipon Best Gun Vice" to hold the stock still.

When i first got the Sako 75 "laminated" varmint with the flutted barrel the stock had been replaced with a Sako synthetic stock. This stock had already been pillar bedded by John Greene. I got the proper Laminated stock afterwards from e-bay ;105 and then did the pillar bedding job on it.

You just have to make sure that the material that you use for the bedding will adhear to the synthetic stock you have.

Devcon 10110 steel epoxy is the one to use by all accounts. It's impossible to source in this country.

    My Sako75 finished.

First 5 shot group after the bedding. Prone @100y off bi-pod 155gr @2800 f/sec. I'm happy enough as that is what I was getting off a bench at the range. The lower shots are aimimg in and the top is the 5 shot group.
Measured @ 1/2" centre to centre.

Cheers clive. Going to go synthetic in future I think but I might go ahead and bed it in the walnut for the time being. Might do it sometime soon. Looks like a good project for a free weekend after the season ends.

No Glenman you mean grief free :p. I haven't had a grief free day in years. :o

The stress free here is refering to reliving the stress on the stock by using pillars and eliminating the stock from any affects on the action.

    Feel the fear

Thanks but that statement does not give me anywhere that I can buy the Devcon. I had to get it imported (thanks Glensman).

So have you an outlet address or phone number that sells the Devcon 10110 here in Ireland?????

No problem. I can get as much more as you want- but more expensive.
MidwayUK are doing it, they deliver to here, I'm not sure about the free state?
