M1 Toll Plaza Options

    Hi,

I'm going to be starting a new job in Dublin and will be travelling down from the North. I will be using the M1 Motorway so this will mean going through the M1 Toll Plaza.

Whenever I've gone through the Toll Plaza before, I've always paid with cash.

I'll be going through the M1 Toll Plaza at six different times a week and wondered what was the best option for paying the toll (i.e. cash at the basket or opt for one of the tags to be used at the barrier-free lanes)?

    Thanks.

There is no discount for using a tag on the M1. But a tag is convenient, saves fiddling with change and it is handy if you ever find yourself on the M50, where there is a discount.

there should be a discount of 10% if you pay for the toll bridge in advance BUT it is nothing to do with tags and doesn't work with it.

a bit like irish rail hiding anything that saves you cash, its hard to find info on this too on the web.

Heres a thread though with some info on it.
Maybe someone can shed more light on how it works in practice.

    Thanks for information guys.

I was having a look online and just wondered about the option of a Tag/paying in advance.

I think I'll see how it goes for the first week or so as I'll not be going through the Toll Plaza everyday.

    :)

There is a 10% discount avaiable for the M1.

You buy a 20 trip card at one of the manned booths for €34.20 (which gives you 20 trips for the price of 18.)

To use it you use a booth with an operator who swipes to take the credit off it. You can top it up at the booth as the trips run out.

It could be argued that it's not as handy as the automatic lane, but it's still a 10% discount, and depending on the time of day, you don't spend that much longer to go through the plaza.

I did enquire when they introduced the M1 mini-tag would they look into giving the 10% discount via that but no luck.....
