Anybody know much about them ?

Hope to be starting lessons with them in a couple of months time and just like some feedback on what there like.

Also is it true that they hire in ADI's to conduct the lessons on there own (aviva) cars?

Based in D7 if that helps.

    Thanks.

I got my ten lessons with an Aviva instructor who as far as I'm aware, is an ADI who owned his own car and worked on a private basis but was also contracted to work through Aviva. He had the Aviva markings all over his car but the car was definately his own. He was a good instructor, I don't think there is a difference in quality of instruction than if you were going through any other school. Obviously it varies from place to place. Best of luck with your lessons!

Its a franchise, ADI's pay Aviva a fee (€5k from memory) and are given an area.
Aviva generated bookings are channelled to that ADI, for which he/she also pays Aviva a percentage.

I also did 10 lessons with Aviva and couldn't fault them. I had no problems and my instuctor was great. As has been said, it does seem to operate as a franchise. After I fininshed my 10 Aviva lessons, I could book more lessons/ pre-tests through the instuctor independently.

It is not about the name of a driving school it’s about the instructor.

All driving instructors must be ADI Qualified instructors.

Just to point out; a franchisee could only be teaching one week when you meet them.
But the school (franchiser) could be going 50 years.

I would recommend that you make sure the instructor is qualified and if you can get testimonials for an instructor rather than the school you would be better off.

    Hope this helps

Rather than people saying, "Such and such is a great school", it should be the instructor who gets recommended. As a school could have both good and bad instructors.

Heard from a friend that she booked 10 lessons with Aviva and on two occasions they did,ent turn up.
She was not a happy camper.

son booked 10 lessons and has 3 instructors in 5 lessons and has to phone the centre every time to book his next lesson and theres often a wait of 8-10 days before his next lesson. His second instructor used to have to drive 30km to pick him up. could probably be better if living in dublin but not great if living anywhere outside.

I've 6 of them got now. No complaints at all. I book the next lesson at the end of the previous 1, he's never really booked out by more than a week in advance. Handy lesson alert texts a day before the lesson and all that. Can't complain.

"Not great" is putting it mildly. Each time a new instructor meets him it will take a few minutes to guage his skill level. They won't know what was causing problems in the previous lesson. Those gaps are too big as well. This is hampering your son's learning and making your money less effective. I would not accept it, even in the furthest reaches of Donegal or Kerry..

thanks adi. he had his last lesson on the 15th and his next is tom(1st) and this was after i'd kicked up a fuss because they said home pick up was unavailable and he'd have to travel to kildare, we live in kells! Threatened to cancel but they pointed out his insurance would be voided and we'd lose over $200 because theres no refunds so have decided i'd finish his lessons and then go with a more local instructor. Its very unfair on him and has tainted his enthusiasm a bit.

We wont be using them for his younger brother next year thats for sure.

    From 'not great' to ****
I hope the lesson is from your house. They do claim to have a driving school in Meath. How do you lose 200 euro? Insurance policies can be canceled. There is legitimate cause for a refund.

Not 100% true - there may be an element of truth in what he's saying if he's covered under the Aviva driving school offer (6 months free on a parent's policy if 10 Aviva driving school lessons are booked). The 6 months free would be void if the lessons were cancelled at any time but there's nothing stopping you from naming him on the policy under normal terms (might be a bit pricey of course).

Hi Adi, Yes close enough anyway he picked him up from the end of the road. J.S is right he is covered by the 6mnths free as we already have 3 policies with them and the €200 is lost because we had to book 10 lessons and its in the small print that there are no refunds unless the school cancels the lessons. If we cancel his insurance now then he has to restart his policy from scratch and loses the benefit of the last 4mnths.

In hindsight i would rather have paid the extra for his insurance as we've just thrown his lesson money away. he had his lesson today and his next lesson is a wk friday. As they say if something looks to good to be true then more often than not it is.
