international usb modem stick ?

Looking at my options for holidays and at home.
I need to buy a 3G modem stick for here in Ireland, likely to get a pay as you go.
But I'm also travelling to France, Germany, and Switzerland this summer, and would like to have a modem stick that would ideally work in all 3 countries.
Last year, I had a separate 3G for here in Ireland (lost it I think :(), and bought another one (part of a package) for France.

So, if I buy just the Irish one, just wondering would it be possible to just insert a sim card from France (if they sell their packages with just sim) for the holidays, then revert to the Irish Sim when I come back ?
    (France is our main destination).

And is there one provider that covers the whole of Europe, and is it worthwhile ?

    Thanks !

What would be ideal would be something like this but it doesn't cover the countries you are visiting. afaik there are no other providers with a similar scheme so at best your stuck with getting your current modem unlocked (or buying an unlocked one) and getting a Pay as you go SIM in each country you visit. You'll also need some dialer software that isn't tied to a specific provider (or use dial up networking built into windows) and know how to change the APN when you change SIM and provider.

If you are asking about just the Hardware USB stick/dongle without a SIM get a cheap Huawei USB dongle and unlock it (search online for an unlocking program) install Huawei's own generic Mobile Partner software (again search online) and learn how to change the APN when you change the SIM in each country.

Thanks, I see what you mean.
Since my Google searches didn't bring up any provider that would do Ireland and France either, and downloading dialers/software every time and changing APN etc... seem a bit of hassle, don't think I will bother. I'll just try and find the hardware I had (the dongles are still costly enough !) and renew with new Sim cards/deals.

I just thought if such a provider existed someone on here could have pointed me in the right direction. One comes up in google searches, but link doesn't take me to an actual site.

I guess a lot of travelling people rely on airport/hotel wifis, but I'm travelling to campsites, and know from experience that not all have wireless facilities, and when they do they'd end up costing me the same by end of trip.

    thanks !
