Any way to identify golfers from photos?

Hey all,


I have a friend who asked me would I do him a favour and add names to photographs for him. Told him yeah, I'd be happy to. I assumed I'd get names with the photos and would add them to the metadata. However, he wants me to add captions to the shots, etc. but I haven't a clue who is who in the photos.

Are there any websites where I can view a roster for different competitions (these photos are from an Abu Dhabi Compeition in 2010, not too long ago) that could help me out?

Perhaps a website that lists all the golfers, or golfers that played on each day, with a headshot of the golfer?


Or alternatively, if any of ye more knowledgeable Golf fans would fancy helping me out at all? If I were to post a cropped photo of a golfer's face, would ye be able to give me his name?


Just a bit stuck, and this guy has helped me out a few times, so I don't really want to say "ah I can't be of any use to you, do it yourself", you know?

post the pictures on here and between the lot of us im sure we'd be able to tell you the vast majority if not all of them.

Pretty sure if you go to the European tours website you will get a list of players and bio's, other than that stick em up here. Best of luck.

Fair enough. Sorry for the tiny images, but to start off (there aren't that many golfers, about 5 i think?)

Well thats very true but as a bit of help the results from 2010 are available in this link

If it's any help, the photo properties say it was taken on the 19/01/11 at 12:05?

Well the tournament didn't start until two days after the photos were taken, so the results aren't going to be too much help.

Put up the other ones anyway.

I think the guy above, in the blue hat, is a Padraig Harrington?

Well of course 2010's results aren't going to help since we now know when the photos were taken :rolleyes:

Right I've done some googling and I've found out the remaining two are Phil Mickelson and Rory McIlroy.

That's them all, then. I still can't figure out the first fellow though.

EDIT: Apologies, by the way, about the 2010/11 mix up. The folder I was given said 2010 on it. It's the photo properties that said 2011 in the end. Sorry

But try using Tineye.... (http://www.tineye.com/) it may bring up other sites where the names are present.

Are you familiar with Hulk Hogan? How about William Regal?

Regal is a fantastic wrestler, well liked by wrestling fans, but a vast majority of the world wouldn't have a clue who he is.

I'd know Tiger Woods' name, and I'd most likely recognise a photo of him, but I've never heard of Padraig Harrington before in my life. Believe me, I wish I knew who all these guys were. I'd love to have a good knowledge of Golf/Golfers right now, as it'd be very handy for me, but I just don't follow it, and thus, unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the players.

Harrington is much more 'Hogan' than 'Regal'... have you got a TV, mate? Switch it on

Ok KK. I believe you. I'm presuming you have no reason to troll. I do know Hulk Hogan but the comparison is not a good one. Harrington is considered by some (e.g. rte poll) to be the greatest Irish sportsman ever and is in the news and papers here on a regular and high profile basis. But fair enough, each to their own. You don't read the papers or look/listen to sports news. No problem with that.

Yeah, sorry if my posts came across as ignorant or trolling. I am really happy you guys offered to help me out at all, I wasn't trying to annoy anyone.

I'm just genuinely not familiar with golf at all.
