hey guys. i'm not sure if this is the right section of the forum, if so please feel free to tell me! also @ mods please edit my post if there is some stuff that isn't allowed on the forum.

well the other night i ended up with the wrong people after a night out and out of no where they ended up trying to mug a guy and because i was drunk (i'm not blaming it all on alcohol, but i definitly wouldn't have been there if i was sober). the victim was not seriously hurt thank God, even though one of the guys did hit him. although i did hold the shoulder of the victim thereby commiting a serious offence and i accept that. we were all arrested, interviewed and i was then told the case would go to the DPP.

so i was wondering a small few things that i have no idea about. if this does go ahead to court (i'm not sure who decides if it does or not. the dpp or the victim?) but if it does, seen as it was my first time being arrested, first time in court and i am currently a student hopefully the outcome will not be too serious, but maybe i am being naive

the big question is if this goes to court will i ever be able to get a visa to america/australia or the future? and also how will i be notified of the court summons? through the post or will the gardai call into my residence?

    thanks in advance.

You need legal advice. Get to a competent solicitor straight away. Anybody convicted of the offence of robbery will have severe difficulties with visas.

thanks for the reply. any idea how much that would all cost? i'm still living in my mothers house and she is currently only working part-time (i would rather not tell her unless it's really necessary) + i'm living on a student grant

A case like that will attract legal aid. There will be legal solicitors operating in your area. Go and see a good one. It is unlikely that there would be a fee charged to you.
