Martin warranty

Just purchased a new Martin HD-28 and tried to register it for warranty but the Martin site seems to only register guitars bought in the US or Canada. Does anyone know if it can be registered? Or is it tough luck if it develops a problem? I'm sure the guitar must be covered by some sort of warranty, especially an expensive one at that.

Also I wanted to find out when the guitar was actually manufactured using the serial number but unlike Gibson, Martins system is not very clear. Anyone know anything about this?
    Cheers guys.

    Hi,

Did you buy it online or in a music shop ?

The validity of the warranty will depend on where you bought it - Europe or USA - and whether or not you bought it second hand. Most companies don't offer warranties for items imported by the buyer from the USA. Most also only apply to the first buyer.

Nice choice though. The HD 28 is my favourite acoustic of all time.

Its a great guitar alright, really happy with it. I bought it in Jimi's music store in Dublin, brand new.

With a receipt you should have a 12 month warranty on that instrument no problem. Some manufacturers are offering extended warranty, depending on where the instrument is bought. One, Irish made, offers a lifetime original owners warranty.

Warranty often reverts back to the distributor, if the item is bought outside Ireland you may have a problem, but seeing as you bought it from an official dealer in Ireland, you'll have no trouble. Worth emailing the distributor if you have any additional warranty queries (if there is an extended warranty etc.)

Your warranty is with Jimis Music Store who are supported by Keynote, the Irish distributor. Those warranty cards are only for North America.

Dating your guitar is pretty straightforward. Martin list the first serial of each year. So you'll know when yours was made based on that.

Martin guitar is local to me. I pass them almost every day going to work. An acquaintance of mine works there building guitars. If there is anything you want to know about your guitar, there’s no harm in me asking him.

A little side note about Martin guitars. Years past (but no longer), CF Martin allowed their employees a "one time" ability to design, create and build their own private guitar. But they were not allowed to put any CF Martin identification in the guitars they built for themselves. Many of these guitars were the best quality and most beautiful guitars ever. And now many years have gone by that subsequent family generations don’t know much about these guitars, and they get put up for sale. This individual knows how to spot these guitars and has made a quite a lucrative little business checking craigslist, local newspaper classified sections, and going to local garage sales – because the vast majority of these guitars remain local from people who worked there in the past. One of his latest acquisitions was one of these type guitars valued at $30,000 (US) of which he paid $250 (US) at a garage sale.

Thanks for that, ill be sure to ask if there's anything i need to know about Martin guitars. Would love to visit the factory but dont think that will ever happen! Interesting story about the workers making their own guitars....imagine how shocked a person would be to sell a guitar for 250 and find out its worth over a hundred times that amount:eek:!!!

Just spoke to him. He said go to CF Martin's website www.martinguitar.com, he thinks what you want is under Customer Care. Look for (he believes) Dating Your Guitar. Enter the serial number and you will be provided information you are looking for. If you don't get what you want I can give him the serial number and he will the information for you. He will never sell that guitar.
