Someone drew my attention to this Motorcheck report that was purchased online today. Written off twice and potentially clocked - buyer beware!

I don't dispute the point Motorcheck is making. However, look at the mileage history: 26,800 miles on 30 jan 04, and 35,800 miles on 12 feb 04. 9000 miles in 13 days, or 700 miles a day for 13 days solid !!!!! Mileage history isn't always completly correct (although in this case the trend is clear).

There could be an explanation if this was the only red flag. It's the fact that the car was written off as well that makes this so ridiculous.

At €4500 for an EP3 it wouldn't take an online check to tell you something is wrong with it!

I just texted him to offer €1k for the clocked and written off Civic.
The engine and bits might still be good.

Always check the background of the car, that is the lesson here. I almost walked to outstanding finance trap myself, when looking old Lexus cars.

And no it does not necessary have to be motorcheck.ie service that you use :D

Irish EP3's are going for very very cheap at the moment, €4500 wouldn't be far off the price of one!

    Did he reply?!

Some very odd mileage history. 9000 miles in 13 days and 40,000 miles in 7 months. Wouldn't have liked to be putting in the petrol for those trips.

Is it possible it was some sort of ex police car?

I know Imprezas get used a good bit

700 miles would not be a lot of driving in the UK with all the motorways.

Going by the mileage and the history I wonder is it a ringer thats had all identification transferred and ecus from the crashed car to a stolen one

Yes its allowed back on the road but to be twice a cat C write off is not good. Cat C would mean extensive damage and would require an inspection in order to go back on the raod in the uk. In this regard, the most worrying thing is that there is no records after may 06 apart from another write off. I wonder did it ever pass its inspection after these writeoffs? I wouldnt touch it anyway.

It should be stated in the ad.

Hence the ad has been removed

Donedeal seems to think its not ok to advertise a clocked car at clocked mileages and also to sell a car which isn't honestly advertised regarding previous accident history.

I really fail to see how you have a problem with that.

If every car that had a tip/crash had to state it in the add then i would suspect 50% of cars would be advertised that way !! Nothing wrong with a car being repaired so long as the job is up to scratch imo

i quite agree with the mileage issue...

how many cars on donedeal have been repaired????? should they all be pulled cause feck all ads mention any damages previously repaired .....
size or extent of damage withstanding the ads are still all deciving buyers by your standards

I would be pretty pissed if i went to buy a car advertised as mint to find it had been in a smash.

If it had a small bang and the panel was repaired fair enough just tell me.

If it was that light a bang it wouldn't make a difference to me as long as it was repaired correctly. If it has been CAT C'd on a fairly new car it was most likely extensively damaged and needed large amounts of work to put it right including an engineers report.

There was an M3 convertible a while back that was cat c'd and because of some eagle eyed people here it was spotted and reported and the ad amended.

there is also the infamous case of the Cat C'd Mini convertible still driving around
