Timing chain question

My Ford Escort has the OHV (pushrod) HCS engine, with the camshaft driven by a short chain. My question is does the chain ever need to be replaced? Thanks.

Not unless it stretchs and starts rattling which isn't too common on them really, unlike the VW VR6 engine for example :)

Thanks. The engine is a bit rattly, but then again, all pushrod engines are! :)

Yeah, I service the sister's Ka but it was recently up in the mechanics for a once over (since the spark plug incident). I thought it was louder than usual so reckoned the tappets may have needed adjustment, it's fine apparently.

If the engine is rattley you should have the rocker arm/valve clearances checked.

The chain should never need to be replaced.
