Question Re: Oil problem in Focus II 1.4 petrol

My gf has a Jan '05 Focus II 1.4 petrol and the last while I've noticed (I do all servicing etc to the car) that at the end of the dip stick when I check the oil level there is a tiny blob of whitish/yellowish something. No-where else, just the very tip of the dipstick.

The coolent is perfect, no drop in level and the oil cap is fine too.

The car has 184,000 kms done and I service it every 10k kms with comma 5 w30 semi synthetic. The car had 90k kms on it when we bought it in sept 2008.

It passed the nct first time last november, emmissions fine.

Also when I changed the sparkplugs last two times there is oil in the two areas the plugs screw into nearest the passenger side and its enough to cover the threads of the sparkplugs in oil as I take them out. It doesn't look much when you take the HT lead off the sparkplug and look in if you understand me.

Finally the oil level goes down about half way between services.

Are these problems serious or any thoughts on them?

I must also say that the car does approx 600kms a week since april '09 at 99% motorway driving....revs approx 3.5k rpm.

The rocker gaskets can leak oil into the space where the spark plugs are. If a new gasket hasn't been fitted when the timing belt was done then thats one reason for it to leak.

As for the white on the dipstick, you could get a sniff test done to be sure but unless you are having running/cooling or fluid loss issues then I wouldn't worry about it just yet.

Thanks for that....the timing belt and water pump were replaced last June. Its only since then the problem has occured I'm sure.

I take it the rocker cover gasket isn't too hard to replace myself?

Its straight forward enough, the focus II doesn't have the cylinder head temp sensor which makes removing the rocker cover a bit awkward.
