Poll On Who You Would Like To Be Taoiseach - Pointless

When the polls (RedC/Millward Brown/TNS etc etc) are published they invariably include a result on the 'who would you like to be Taoiseach' question.

This is a a pointless addition imo to any poll. It's not a question that we have any control over. We're never given the chance to vote for Taoisesach. We vote for TD's, which in turn determines who the Taoiseach will be.

Is there a point in this question being included in poll results?

i suppose they base that question on the tradition that the party leader is more often than not the big T. so what theyre really asking is what party should you bvote for, as their leader might be the Taoiseach?

its something i said myself recently - 1. we should get to vote who i s taoiseach or 2. every td should get a vote - even if they have to vote someone from the leading party, they should get a say

every TD does get to vote for who Taoiseach is at present. When the new Dail sits FF will put forward Micheal Martin for Taoiseach, FG will put forward Enda Kenny and if Labour are going into Government with them then their TD's will vote for him as well.

Our leadership elections are held in the Dáil, the people don't get to vote on Taoiseach.

Does the popularity of a potential leader have an effect on the electorate? Well currently Fine Gael are the most popular party in the country at 37%, but Enda is the second to last in popularity, with Gormley the least popular. I agree and think the leadership popularity ratings are moot and of no consequence given this fact. These leadership polls only matter to bookmakers.

My personal feelings on Enda are that he's an honest man, with integrity and dignity. He's not flash or charismatic, but we've had charisma before out of Bertie and Haughey and where did that get us? Once Enda is in the job, people will warm to his style and trust in him... why because he will get results and change the country for the better. Not only do I think he'll be a good Taoiseach, he'll be the best Taoiseach ever.
