Toyota Rav4 Diesel or Petrol

Is the diesel option always really worth buying is my question.

I’m looking at buying a Toyota Rav4 4wd 5 door at the moment. 02/03 2 litre petrol or diesel.

Obviously the diesel is the more expensive buy by about a grand if not more. The diesel does 39mpg the petrol 32, I do 300 plus miles a week. So by my reckoning the diesel will be about 600 to 750 a year cheaper on fuel. So the gap in price is made back in a year and a halfish. Now the chances of me keeping any car longer than that are very slim as I’ve a problem with settling down, car wise!!

My main area of concern though is that the only reliability horror stories I hear about Rav4’s is with diesels, the flywheels are notorious for going at a cost of a grand plus to sort, then theres turbo issues and fuel pump probs.

So when I factor in the cost of running against the cost of buying and potential big bills I end up thinking the petrol is the way to go. Am I mad or does anyone out there agree

I'd take the petrol too, but bargain hard for it.

bought the petrol, got great deal on it, full dealer service history, low mileage, good condition, cheap as chips and not worried that the dual mass flywheel is gonna go or the fuel pump etc. even if it is a bit thirstier than the D4D unit
