I thought Dara O'Brien was excelllent on The 11th Hour last night.

He knows his politics ( as well as his sports) but he isn't afraid to be irreverend.

RTE gets a lot of criticism on these boards (some of it justified) but they deserve credit for giving O'Brien a slot on the new show.

The best surprise was Stewart Kenny - the two were great discussing the odds on the various candidates. Stewart knows his politics and electoral districts.

I watched The 11th Hour and then switched to Vincent Browne.

For both information and entertainment Dara O'Brien won hands down.

Even if you think irreverence has no place in news and analysis, it's a big element in Browne's show as he spends half the programme making jokes at the politicians expence and then laughing at his own jokes.

It's a personal opinion, but I think O'Brien is more subtle and more effective.

Personally I thought he was better on Mock the Week. And has he lost some weight...?

    He's ****e. Should have stuck to Setanta. A know-all.
    Stick to sport. Arrogant. Pompous.
Ms Shanley should have refused the gig, given he is her co-presenter on alternative evenings.
I often wonder what the RTE hacks in the newsroom make of it all. A sports presenter, Magners League mind, so not mainstream, is wheeled out to present RTE's offering against VB.
I'd hammering on the door of the decision-makers wanting to know why I or my news colleagues weren't asked to fron the show.
