And that demonstrates the value of NavAids.

Can you imagine trying to get into that airport using dead reckoning? "Look for the lights...".

At least it's on the coastline, makes it easier to find.

    NTM

mad the way that the runway is normally the most illuminated object out the window, in this case its way duller because of the surroundings. :)

Wouldnt like to be flying the approach with the same crew of the
MD83 who in 2007 mistook the lights of the hotel at santry cross
for the lights of 34 at DUB.:eek:;)

I had a really hard time finding the runway for the last part of the approach. Runways lights seem so dim in comparison.

Off to FSX to try that approach :)

it was my understanding the the lights on the hotel were very similar to the lights at the end of a runway and on a similar heading.

I also think they have now been removed?

"NORAD fighter jets scrambled out of March Air Reserve Base in Riverside County and immediately surrounded the Cessna 182, escorting it to the Long Beach Airport."

I find this bit difficult to believe - that an F16 could hold formation with a Cessna 182 without stalling or without a ridiculously high AoA! Could it be done?

Yes. The report says the followed it, not flew in formation with it.

I drive by it every morning and can assure you the lights are still there! There are a lot of issues concerning DUB in the Ballymun area such as chinese laterns being launched off all the time and various lights a top flats etc.

I'll never forget the night a Ryanair 737 screamed over at well below the legals after some emergency on take-off....house was almost shook apart.
