Wipers scratched windscreen

Has this happened to anyone else? I just got a new (used) car recently and have only used the wipers once in rain, and a couple squirts of the window cleaner. Since then there has been an 1cm wide arc-shape across the front of my windscreen. I figured it was grease or dirt, but after trying to clean it I found that it's ever so slightly coarse, and must be light, concentrated scratching :(

I should say it's not indented scratching, it's raised scratching. Imagine having a perfectly smooth belt-sanded,unvarnished piece of wood, and then running a strip of sandpaper against the grain once. Barely there to the touch, but quite visible.

I saw on another thread someone suggested jewelers rouge - anyone have any actual experience with that (which i'd rather not risk using)? Otherwise do you think it would buff out since it's raised, not indented? Or lastly, are there any Dublin based detailers that anyone could recommend?

If it's reasonable to DIY or cheap to get done, I won't bother the garage. Surely this is a common-ish problem?

    Cheers!

    Did you change the wipers?

Nope, and they look new to me. Car's kept in a basement and I actually wonder whether there was some concrete dust or something under them that did it.

At a minimum clean the blades thoroughly if you haven't done so already :)

Will do - just flat out not driving in the wet until it's sorted. Scratches are wrecking my head on my new shiny car though!

How do you get raised scratching on glass?
Get out the windowlene and a sponge or something and give the screen a good clean, clean the wipers to and see if it's still there before you try anything else (well that's what I'd do anyway!)

60 bills? I'd take that. Which "franchise guy" was it??
