It looks like the wild african hunting dogs... but they surely can't be domesticated? Maybe a cross or something... I'm guessing just a mongrel.

Really depends on what country the dog came from. Looks like a cross to me but if it's an Irish dog the chances of it being a cross of australian sheep dog or blue heeler are rare, just aren't enough of them around.

My guess if it's irish is that it's a cross of a merle border collie, tons of them here and you can get them tricolour. Gorgeous dog though.

his colouring is definately like those african wild dogs so I see where you get that from. they seem to generally have plain coloured heads though and of course those massive ears.
    beautiful colouring anyway

That's the one, thanks! Still, the aussie shepherd looks a bit fluffier than the one in my pic.

Looks like a cross of both tbh, a cross of the shepherd and the cattle dog.

That dog looks so goofy. :D The markings made me think of the Catahoula Leopard. Crossed with an Australian Shepherd.

    Merle colouration can appear in-

    Aussie Shepherds
    Border Collies
    Smooth Collies
    Rough Collies
    Shetland Sheepdogs
    Catahoula Leopard Dogs
    Mudis
    Koolies
    Cardigan Welsh Corgis
    Great Danes
    Dachshunds etc.

So I would imagine its a cross of one of these breeds. Def not an african hunting dog mix though. I'm inclined to agree with TooManyDogs, I'd say merle collie, or some kind of mix. Beautiful dog though.

Take another pic when he comes down from what ever he is on, and I might be able to identify it. Is it even a dog?

This is one of my dogs, I've always suspected Aussie Shepherd cross, hence the name, Didge.

Just like you can get a border collie with a short coat, I guess you could get a smooth aussie shepherd?

There is a lot of variation in some individual dog breeds though, especially merle breeds, so it's diffficult to pin point that stunning pooch :)

This is my PB blue merle border collie, Freya:

And this is Rio, whose mother was a PB blue merle border and his dad was a Lab X:
