    You can do nothing!!

When the NCT dudes enter the mileage into their system would there not be a flag of some sort to alert them to the mileage disparity in cases like this? Not that they could be expected to do anything but if for instance an asterix or something automatically printed on the cert and disc this might well make clocking cars that bit less attractive.

In this case wiping 50K miles off that yoke wouldn't make much difference to it value, seems a waste of time. The NCT would make it attractive to enough people.

Its sad but you wont get anywhere. Even if you confront the guy who is currently selling it, unless you sold the car directly to him, he will not admit clocking. At least in this case, its tiny money and the person would be buying on physical condition as much as anything else. Imagine how annoying it would be to pay 30k for a clocked car or any serious amount of cash for a clocked car.
If people will clock a car for the sake of a couple of hundred, you can imagine what they will do when bigger money involved

When the car is registered with the tax office you can find out who bought it. For who ever is buying the car the NCT cert should have to mileage on it. This is fraud and could/should be reported to the gardai providing you have proof.

EDIT: The bloke selling it is Lithuanian, , he no understand english when i asked him about the mileage being clocked

Its the same guy i sold it to id say. Did he say its still for sale? i got a woman to ring to see would he try bullsh*t her but said it was sold.

I dont think it matters that its a cheap car, fact is its still fraudulent and not fair on the person buying the car.

I sold the car for scrap/ parts as it was shagged altogether and wiping that many miles would make a difference IMO.
I dont really think them engines are usually capable of doing over 150k?

Its misleading, unfair, dishonest and illegal

    Hows that then?

Email donedeal with your claim, especially if you can prove the mileage is false, old NCT print out etc.

Don't think the mileage the NCT record has any standing legally, came up here before i think.

Shameful carry on. Selling this kind of car is preying on the most vulnerable motorist (someone young, without a lot of cash, and not too knowledgeable about cars).

If this is reported to the police, will they even care?

    No doubt it doesn't :)
Still, if the mileage 2 years on was less than when previously tested a nice indicator on the cert would be nice. Would certainly make clocking that bit less attractive.

For all you knoe he may have put a new engine in and changed the clocks, if you had all that trouble with it previous to him buying it he obviously has spent quite a bit on it to get it through the NCT!!! You sold it and maintained the head gasket was on the way out but i bet you did'nt tell him ?? Give the guy a break, its up to the buyer to have all their homework done prior to purchase

The rest of the car has still done the mileage regardless of putting a new engine in with lower mileage.

You dont just roll back the mileage just because you put a new engine in...

Same difference. Just because you change an engine doesnt mean you change the clocks!!

I put a new mondeo engine into my car last year and also put the clocks from that car into mine aswell, reason being i wanted to keep servicing records, belt change intervals etc. Whats the point in having an engine with one mileage and clocks with different mileage ???

Would you tell the person who you sell the car to that this is the case? Would you tell the NCT that in actual fact your milage maybe higher or lower than that of your clocks in reality?

The engine isnt the only consumable part of the car! In fact most things on a car wear faster than the engine!

Anything other than the original clocks is a misrepresentation! If the clocks fail then fair enough change them but have them reset back to the original mileage.

I cant believe there are people out there who think its acceptable to change the clocks to match a changed engine:eek:

    Report it to the Gardai.

Tell the seller it's clocked in no uncertain terms, show him proof. At least that way he can never claim that he didn't know it was clocked.

No actually he probably didnt, I supplied the car with a failed nct sheet, the work neede for the car to pass wasnt all that much which goes to show what an nct is worth in reality.

Secondly I stated that I suspected the HG was on the way out, im not a mechanic however i suspected this due to a collection of creamy gunge under the oil cap wich I pointed out to him.

Thirdly whatever problems the car had were reflected in the price, if it had relatively low mileage at the time than maybe it might have been worth my while fixing it, who knows but atleast he bought it knowing what condition/ mileage was on the car.

Does any of this change the fact that the car has been clocked by this man, and he is knowingly passing it on for cash therefore de-frauding the buyer?
    IMO no it doesnt
