C5 suspension - fault - keeps bouncing

Citroen C5, 2005, 1.6 Diesel. over the last few months i would get a "suspension fault" but nothing would happen to the drive - it just seemed like a silly error initially, and this error even comes on when i press for windscreen fluid !!! like what's that all about....but over the last few days the suspension raises itself for no obvious reason while driving e.g. i could be driving at say 80 klms and the car would all of a sudden be like i'm at a fun fair with the bouncy bouncers, i stop the car to see if the suspension comes back down or reset it self - i does, but then happens again - but for no obvious reason...

last week i had the car looked at for another fault - i could be driving up in the gears and then all of a sudden the car looses power i.e. stays at a limited speed (without the limiter being on) and will not speed up until i pull in, stop the car and start again. the mechanic (who is a guy who gets a lot of referrals from citroen dealer problems)

anybody got any suggestion on how to get this resolved - PLEASE

You need to get this looked at by someone who is familiar with the Citroen Hydractive Suspension.

Where in Cuckoo Land are you?

I understand your concerns with the wallet.

The thing is, the Citroen Hydractive suspension requires a technician that knows his sh1t. You could use an indy and have various visits, each with a cost but there's a better chance that McCarthy's will fix it first time.

+1 there could be a minor fault or a bigger part that is starting to fail. There is a function on the C5 which allows the car computer to automatically change the suspension height to adjust to the road conditions, if it's something small then a Citroen garage will tell you pretty quick, if not they can just do a diagnostic and tell you what is wrong.

I had complete suspension failure on an older C5 that I had, and the part alone cost about €800, but the diag to find out what was wrong was maybe €100.

Get to a Citroen garage to at least find out what's wrong with it, then you can weigh up what options you have, knowing what the problem is. Driving a C5 when the suspension collapses is not fun.

    Not Your Ornery Onager

I thought the spheres were cheap and easy to fit on Citroens?

It's most probably your ride height sensor, had the front one go on my car, same symptoms as you are describing. It was fitted in 10 mins and if I remember (happened over 2 years ago) cost about 40 quid all in.

They are, but if it's adjusting the ride height itself or getting stuck in the high position it's not likely to be a shpere that needs changing.

Defo the ride height sensor. Probably the rear one. Had the same thing on a Zantia which is basically the same system.
