Ipod classic sound problem

My better half adores his older ipod. He has a 3G and a 4G but thinks the sound is much better out of the third generation ipod.
There's something wrong with the headphone jack now though and when earphones are connected to it sound only comes through one side. When it's connected to a speaker etc the sound is fine so it's obviously a problem with headphone socket (we've tried numerous headphones and it's always the same).
I was just wondering is there anywhere I can send this to get fixed? It's obviously well out of warranty but he loves the bloody thing and isn't very impressed with the sound quality from the new generation ipods so will try anything to fix the older one.
