    From Planet rugby.

    What did he do now?
Stade Français coach Michael Cheika and his assistant Chris Whitaker will appear before a French rugby disciplinary committee next month after being reported for bad behaviour.

Haha, hopefully it was for a rant about a ref. I used to love his tantrums, nice to see the passion. I'll never forget after the Glasgow game last year he pretty much called James Jones a twat.

Well he'd be spot on on that count.

That was mild compared to what I was calling him during the game

Didn't dom ryan get binned for a tackle that was far too good?

Flattened the scrum half but took more than one second to roll away...

Any detail on the actual incident?

Yeah, it was a farcical decision. It's on Youtube somewhere...

There we go. Desperately unlucky to go for what was essentially just too good a tackle. Unfortunately, I've yet to be convinced that that isn't all does. He's clearly a maniac (in the good sense!) and is fantastic for a certain type of gameplan but while he's a great tackler and a beast of a man, I'm not sure that that isn't all he is. Which is all well and good for a provincial 6, and potentially an international 6, but I'm not sure he'll ever be in Ferris' class for example.

Chap's only 20 and an integral part of our back-row, give a bit of time... ;)

Oh indeed, SOB had hands that were grafted from a burn victim's feet only a year ago. Ryan could be amazing given some time (time and gametime that I'm exeedingly glad he's getting) but he's already a fantastic asset to Leinster.

That was an absurd yellow by Jones though. He essentially got it cause Cussiter was too fazed by the tackle to push the ball back.

im going to play devil advocates here but glasgow were in a prime attacking position and ryan didnt role away. cusiter "falls" if thats the right word on his side and ryan is still over him.

i'm not sure if cusiter was in any shape to actually place the ball back. ryan was stopping him if he could and also stopping the support from getting to the ball.

i cant remember if there was awarning to leinster before hand but considering the position glasgow were in if they got quick ball they could have been dangerous.

thats a yellow card. not for the tackle but for not rolling away. the ref even says this.

i do wonder what happened as its not just cheika but whitacker too. i dont think they'd both give an interview after the match and slag off the ref so it must have been something that happened pitch side.

  • CatfromHue, can you count how many seconds Ryan was given to roll away and then come back to us?

    It was less than 2.

NEVER a yellow card, ever. In fact, I don't even think its debatable, as such I'm hoping you don't bother addressing this post.

    bleh just ignore

when ryan is getting up he has a leg either side of cusiter i.e. he was right on top of him

you're right the ref did blow up pretty quick but that ball was never coming back.

the yellow isnt as ridiculous as people think.

was this the game where cheika was looking extra "hobo" in the stand i.e. mad big wooly hat, one ear phone in, chewing gum like a psycho, completely unshaven and unkempt, and in an anorak

You're right. I mean, incredible hit and Cussiter was nearly out for the count but the dude didn't roll away. Bit of a harsh call but no worse than some other refs I could mention.

/takes control of the 'thread' driving wheel

Anyone know yet what Cheika and Whitaker are being disciplined for?

It was a team yellow following previous warnings for infringement at the breakdown and nothing to do with the tackle.
He made absolutely no attempt to get off the player as he was slowing down ball in time for defence to re-form.
    He knew it too.

    Excellent tackle however.

Potential rolling away issue aside, exact same thing happened to Ryan against England in U20s world cup. Penalised for absolutely pollaxing the English scrum-half (I think) who had received the ball after an English attacking line-out. That late penalty and the conversation effectively lost Ireland the game. I think it put Ireland beyond a drop-goal to get back in the game. Could see absolutely nothing wrong with the tackle, was superb.

Could be hazy on some of the details.

He wasn't penalised for the tackle in the above clip.
