    heya lads

have a 99 1.9 SDI seat inca, brakes have gone really really soft in it, have to pump them to get them to work and if i slam on it just slides...... taught 1st it might be air in the hoses but its not, bled them and still the same...... anyone got ideas on what the problem is, could it be the servo for the brakes or what??

    cheers
    shane

    Are you loosing fluid?

Yes.. it's a leak. rear wheel cylinders are a favourite.

No.. maybe the hoses are ballooning under pressure.

If you're not loosing fluid and are happy that the flexi lines are not faulty then check to see if you have a vacuum leak between the pump and the servo.

    heya lads

yea im def not losing fluid, kept an eye out for that...... will check the pipes to see if they bulging when i pump the brakes and if that seem ok, will check for the vacuum after that...... was told by a mechanic that its more then likely the servo and that the brakes on incas n caddys can be c.u.nts of things..... just wanna eliminate all other possibilities 1st...... cheers for the help

had a similar problem with inca, most mechanics change the master cylinder and it improves but still not perfect sometimes. my prob was the the load-equalising valve, its attached to the back axle with a spring and 4 brakepipes(2flow,2 return) and self adjusting. this is a main dealer only part, costly, but worth it. dont fit a 2nd hand part, complete waste of time.!
as its corrosion that causes this in the first place. let us know how u get on;)

There's also a bleed screw on the equaliser valve

Have you removed the drums to be sure that the cylinders aren't leaking?

usually just replaced. Not worth risking a used part in the braking system, you kinda depend on them to a certain extent.

Replacement with a new one. Don't even waste your time with a second hand one. You will never get the adjustment right. Been there, done that.!!

I stripped the valve but can't source new seals

could I not bypass valve and set bias for low load, I don't carry heavy loads in the back . would this be dangerous ? is there something about back wheels locking up after jump ?

I have new part ordered from Poland , main dealer 300 euro / local car parts 130 euro / ebay 50 stg

I would think there is no way it would pass a DOE if you bypassed it anyway and I would never do this anyway for the safety reasons you mention. God forbid if anything did happen, in the present climate you would find yourself locked up..
The one on ebay seems fine for 50 quid, it should see out the lifetime of a 1999 van. A D.O.E. retest will cost you this anyway. (or CRVT test as its called now)
Let us know how you get on...
