Possibly chancing my arm, but are there any cycling events over the next couple of months that would be appropriate for a numpty cyclist to try out? A 100-120k sportive to aim for would be cool, or maybe even a timetrial type event?

Im asking here rather than the cycling forum to get the triathlete perspective (I'm not a cyclist, and lack all the skill and etiquette I've been led to believe they expect :) . Riding in a big group at speed scares the bejesus out of me. :D)

Sounds exactly like what I'm looking for as well (and cyclists scare the hell out of me as well).

There is a list on http://www.irishcycling.com/events/calendar/ but the problem is that I have no idea which are numpty-friendly!

The annual Paddy Martin Randonee will take place on February 20th from Bray Wheelers clubhouse. Sign-on at 9am and start 10am. Distances of 100km or 80km with refreshments on route and at the finish. All welcome!
    For more details check www.braywheelers.com]

ps - im not involved with it but have heard only good things about it:D

That sounds do-able! Any other ART-ists interested?

I did the Lap of the Mask sportive last year, it was very low key in fairness. All the good cyclists headed off at a pace that the rest of us couldn't keep up with so we just sat in with cyclists of a similar pace. Beware though we took our turn at the front and we were left there for about 50k, I dont think there is much etiquette with the leisure cyclists

I did 75km on Saturday on a fairly hilly course, so I reckon I should be ok for the 100km on Sunday. It's going to be weather dependent for me. I have no problems running in flogging rain, but I'm not willing to spend four hours on a bike if the weather is too horrific.

Decision to be made on Friday when I see the forecast!
